Llef

by Burum

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Original arrangements and interpretations of traditional Welsh folk songs augmented by the dynamics and flexibility of jazz improvisation.

Trefniannau gwreiddiol o alawon traddodiadol Cymraeg.

Llef, is a Welsh hymn, composed in 1890, but the other material, as on Burum's previous releases are re-imaginings of Welsh folk songs. Recorded on a weekend in January 2016 in Pembrokeshire, Burum continue their journey of creating new music with old melodies.

Burum have been playing together for almost 10 years and the empathy and friendships that have developed over this time shines through in the music. Burum are a band, with a distinctive band sound - not a collection of individuals simply playing together.

Burum Cardiff, UK

Burum's repertoire is drawn from Welsh traditional music, adapted and re-imagined for a modern jazz sextet. The band's music fuses a deep respect for the original folk melodies themselves with the flexibility and dynamics of jazz improvisation - beautiful, melancholic melodies are performed alongside fiery solos and deep grooves. ... more
